How does Emmaus worship together on Sundays?
Emmaus’s worship gatherings have two main objectives:
- To give glory to Jesus
- For you to love Jesus more when you leave us than when you joined us
Gathered worship on Sundays consists of Scripture reading, prayer, musical worship, preaching, and other elements that follow a standard pattern—what we call liturgy. Liturgy is a word that simply refers to how the church worships God together.
Emmaus’s musical style involves simple instrumentation (acoustic guitar, keys, percussion, etc.). But we often say that our primary instrument is the unified voice of the church. We labor to facilitate congregational participation over putting on an impressive performance. At Emmaus, you can expect to sing both old hymns and new songs. We are serious about the theological content of our gatherings, doing our best to ensure that everything we sing, read, and pray is faithful to Scripture, honoring to God, and saturated with the gospel. Our pastors usually preach for about 35-40 minutes. Often we are walking through a book of the Bible over several weeks or months, so that we can understand the entire book and its applications in context. We also believe in repetitively proclaiming the gospel to ourselves and one another, which means you will hear the gospel multiple times throughout the worship gathering. Our pastors always preach the text of Scripture as our ultimate authority. Every sermon is centered on Jesus and the gospel.
Emmaus also observes weekly Communion (also called the Lord’s Supper). We believe the Lord’s Supper is intended for those who have placed their faith in Jesus, been baptized, and belong to a gospel-preaching local church. If that doesn’t sound like you, don’t worry—we won’t single you out or embarrass you at any point in our gatherings. However, we would love to help you take your next step toward Jesus—whether that step is putting your faith in him, getting baptized, or pursuing church membership. Don’t hesitate to ask a pastor or member of Emmaus for help, encouragement, and prayer. If you have questions, you can email elders@emmauskc.com. We want to help you follow Jesus!
Our Sunday gathering typically lasts around 75-80 minutes.
What should I do when I arrive on Sunday morning?
Emmaus worships on Sundays at the historic Screenland Armour Theatre. But rest assured—you don’t need to buy a ticket to worship with us. Screenland has multiple smaller theaters and one large theater. Our main worship gathering happens in the large theater with kids classes and other events taking place in the smaller theaters. Once you are inside the theater entrance, look for a large sign in the lobby to direct you inside the main theater. You will also be greeted at the door by a member of Emmaus’s hospitality team. Our team members are happy to answer any questions you may have. Emmaus’s hospitality team would also love to give you more information about our church, along with a small gift to say thank you for visiting us!
Where & when does Emmaus meet?
The Screenland Armour Theatre
408 Armour Road

Please note: Since there are no movies showing during our gathering, Screenland’s lobby and theaters are dedicated entirely to Emmaus on Sunday mornings.
Worship Gathering
Sundays at 10:00am
What should I wear?
Feel free to wear casual attire. But if you’re more accustomed to “dressing up” for church, that’s good too. Our pastors usually wear jeans and collared shirts.
Am I expected to give money?
We do not expect guests to give money at our gatherings. Emmaus’s members give regularly as an act of praising God for who He is and what He’s done. We believe our generosity in giving is a part of worship. If you wish to contribute financially to the ministries and mission of Emmaus, you can give in person on Sundays or online here.
Should I bring anything?
If you own a Bible, we suggest you bring it because we will use it every time we gather. If you do not own a Bible, we’d love to give you one when you arrive! If you’re a notetaker, feel free to bring a notebook and pen as well.
Where should I park?
There is plenty of street parking near the Screenland Armour Theater. There are also two large parking lots behind the theater you can use.
Where should I take my kids?
In the lobby, we provide quick, easy registration and check-in for Emmaus Kids classes. You can also pre-register your kids using Church Center. A member of our team will be on-hand to direct you and your child to one of our secure classrooms. If you choose not to pre-register your child, it might be a good idea to show up a few minutes early to get settled. We recommend arriving at least 15 minutes before our gathering begins so you can complete the registration process and get everyone settled. Please visit our Emmaus Kids page to learn more. Email kids@emmauskc.com if you have questions.
Is Emmaus affiliated with any denominations or church networks?
Confessing “one holy, catholic, and apostolic church,” we believe gospel partnership with other churches is essential to the fulfillment of the Lord’s Great Commission. No single church can do it alone. It takes the whole body of Christ! Which is why Emmaus is in “friendly cooperation” with the Southern Baptist Convention and helps plant thriving churches through the Harbor Network.
